Field Trip and Dinner Meeting - Herkimer Diamonds. Field trip focus is on high accuracy mapping, structural Geology and stratigraphy of the Little Falls Dolostone and quartz bearing zones. Evening presentation expands on field trip content.

The Northeast Section of AIPG (NE-AIPG) invites all members and guests to attend the 2018 Fall Meeting in Burlington, Vermont. This event features a field trip focusing on the bedrock geology of western Vermont and an evening presentation. Please join us for the business meeting, networking, dinner buffet, and evening presentation at The Livak Ballroom located in the Dudley H. Davis Center at the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont.

7:15 - 8:00 PM: Evening Presentation – Jonathan Kim, Ph.D., of the Vermont Geological Survey, “Characterizing a Contaminated Fractured Bedrock Aquifer in 4 Dimensions, Bennington, Vermont”
Field Trip: The Geology of Western Vermont
The trip will provide an overview of the bedrock geology of western Vermont. We will visit sites in different lithotectonic slices of Vermont including the autochthonous rocks in the Champlain Lowlands, the Cheshire quartzite on the upper plate of the Champlain Thrust, and metamorphosed clastic rocks near the crest of the Green Mountains. The trip begins in Ordovician rocks intruded by Cretaceous dikes on the shores of Lake Champlain (elev.~100’) and ends in the Cambrian rocks at Appalachian Gap (elev.~2375’).
The field trip will be conducted by Marjorie Gale. Marjorie is the State Geologist and Director of the Vermont Geological Survey. She joined the VGS in 1996 and is co-author of the Bedrock Geologic Map of Vermont (2011). She has spent most of her career mapping bedrock, developing groundwater resource maps, working on GIS projects, and doing outreach. She now directs programs which focus on mapping, groundwater and hazards.
